BERKLEY – Chief Scott Fournier is pleased to announce that Berkley Fire Rescue has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The grant, in the amount of $328,118.09, will be used to purchase firefighter breathing apparatus and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) packs. The Town of Berkley will match 5% of the grant amount.
“On behalf of Berkley Fire Rescue, I would like to express my gratitude to FEMA, the Board of Selectmen and Interim Town Administrator Kevin Partridge for their support of our department and this valuable grant,” said Chief Fournier. “With this funding, we can help ensure that our firefighters have high-quality equipment that keeps them safe as they serve our community.”
Assistance to Firefighters Grants are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
The federal grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
“These funds will help keep our first responders safe as they work to protect lives and property. I look forward to continued collaboration with the Berkley Fire Department as they work to keep us safe,” said Congressman Jake Auchincloss.
