The Assonet and Taunton Rivers both flank the town of Berkley. In response to having so many miles of river, development of waterfront property in the last decade, and the increasing number of water emergencies, the Berkley Fire Department created a marine unit.
The Marine Unit consists of Marine One – a 21 foot Parker that is docked on the river ready to respond 24/7 from spring through fall used jointly with the Berkley Police Department. Marine Two is a 12 foot Zodiac, which is deployable year round.
The members of the marine unit are highly trained in the use of the equipment as well as the navigation of the surrounding waterways.
