My name is Jason Perry, and I am proud to serve as Fire Chief of the Berkley Fire/Rescue Department. I began my fire service career in 1996 as a call firefighter, became a certified EMT in 1998, and advanced to paramedic in 2002. In 2004, I was promoted to full-time firefighter/paramedic, beginning my progression through the department’s leadership ranks. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving as Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief. In 2024, I was honored to be appointed Fire Chief, a role that allows me to lead with the same dedication, integrity, and passion that first brought me into the fire service nearly three decades ago.
The Berkley Fire/Rescue Department is a combination department consisting of seven full-time firefighters, a full-time administrative assistant, and approximately 40 on-call firefighters and EMS personnel. We respond to more than 1,000 calls annually, including medical emergencies, fires, alarm activations, motor vehicle accidents, and other requests for service within the Town of Berkley’s 16.4 square miles, as well as mutual aid responses to neighboring communities and state agencies.
As Fire Chief, my vision for the department is focused on planning for the future while meeting the demands of today. With call volume continuing to increase, it is important that we responsibly grow our full-time staffing levels to ensure timely, reliable, and effective emergency response for our community. A key priority remains providing a high-quality Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic ambulance service, delivered by skilled, professional EMTs and paramedics who are committed to compassionate, evidence-based care.
Equally important is ensuring our firefighters and EMS personnel are equipped to do their jobs safely and effectively. This includes continuing to invest in modern fire apparatus, the newest fire suppression equipment, and up-to-date personal protective equipment (PPE). Providing our members with reliable apparatus, advanced tools, and current safety gear—along with the latest treatment options—allows us to improve patient outcomes, enhance firefighter safety, and maintain a high standard of service for the community.
