BERKLEY – Chief Scott Fournier is pleased to share that Congressman Jake Auchincloss visited Berkley Fire Rescue Thursday afternoon to congratulate the department for its recent grant award.
On Thursday, Aug. 17, Congressman Auchincloss met with Chief Fournier and members of Berkley Fire Rescue to congratulate the department for having recently received the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Congressman Auchincloss was joined by Berkley Police Chief Chris Baker, Town Administrator Matt Chabot, Chairman Board of Selectmen Joe Freitus, Berkley Fire Chief Scott Fournier, and Selectmen Tabitha McCrohan as they toured the Town of Berkley and Berkley Fire Rescue’s facilities.
“It was a pleasure for us to host Congressman Jake Auchincloss at the department last week,” said Chief Fournier. “On behalf of the entire department, I would like to thank Congressman Auchincloss for his continued support and advocacy for the Town of Berkley at the state level.”
The AFG grant, in the amount of $328,118.09, will be used to purchase firefighter breathing apparatus and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) packs. The Town of Berkley will match 5% of the grant amount.
Assistance to Firefighters Grants are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
The federal grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
“Chief Fournier, the son and grandson of Berkley fire chiefs, has dedicated his career to the safety of Berkley residents, and I was so pleased to meet him and his colleagues in town government to learn more about their policy goals,” said Congressman Auchincloss. “I’ll continue to support critical funding for these goals, including public safety.”
