BERKLEY – On April 9th Berkley Fire Department and Berkley Police Department responded to a structure fire at 690 Berkley St at 1722hrs. Officers on scene noted a 40×60 detached garage with equipment inside with heavy fire through the roof. Nearest exposure was approximately 75ft away. Car 1 called for a working fire assignment which brings in all apparatus from Berkley (E1, E3, E4, T1, T2, A1), Freetown Engine, Lakeville Tanker, and Raynham Tanker to the scene. Dighton Engine to the station for coverage. Car 1 on scene confirmed fully involved structure and quickly called a 2nd alarm for water supply and manpower. This brought the Dighton Engine to the scene, a Middleboro and Freetown Tanker, Taunton Engine for RIT, and a Swansea Engine for station coverage.
By this time our E3 is on scene with the 2 duty crew members and made an aggressive attack on the fire. The 2nd alarm was canceled when our E1 made it to the scene and deployed additional handlines and the fire was quickly under control. Luckily there was no one inside and only property damage was the result of the fire.
Chief Scott Fournier said, “If it wasn’t for the quick actions of our duty crew aggressively attacking the fire, the outcome could have been different.” Chief Fournier would like to commend the duty crew members. He would also like to thank all our mutual aid partners that came to our aid. Providence canteen was also on scene providing refreshments.
The fire cause in still under investigation at this time.
