Chief Scott Fournier, on behalf of Berkley Fire Rescue, would like to remind residents that the 2023 open burning season will end on Saturday, May 1, at 4 p.m.
The Commonwealth’s annual burning period spans from Jan. 15 to May 1. Residents are able to burn brush, cane, driftwood, tree pruning and other forestry with a permit granted by Berkley Fire Rescue.
Chief Fournier would like to remind anyone who plans to use the remaining days of open burning that they must activate their burn permit by visiting their berkley.firepermits.com account.
When a burn is activated, the department’s dispatch is able to view any open burning location on a map, assisting in public safety and emergency management.
Individuals who don’t have access to a computer should call the Berkley Fire Rescue at 508-822-6354.
Remember that open burning must be done at least 75 feet from all buildings, never leave a fire unattended and keep fire extinguishing materials handy while burning.
Chief Fournier would like to thank Berkley residents for their commitment to ensuring another safe open burning season this year.
